Meeting with the Hudson Institute Leadership

On March 14,  the General Representation of the Chechen Republic of Ichkeria in Ukraine hosted an important meeting between the representatives of the Government of the Chechen Republic of Ichkeria and the leadership of one of the leading American think tanks – Hudson Institute.

The government of ChRI was represented by Akhmed Zakayev, Prime Minister; Inal Sherip, Minister of Foreign Affairs; Magomed Mutalibov, Minister of Defense and Elena Sidorenko, Honorary Consul of the ChRI in Ukraine. The American delegation was represented by John P. Walter, President and CEO of the Hudson Institute; Luke Coffey, senior fellow at Hudson Institute’s Center on Europe and Eurasia; and Peter Rough, Senior Fellow and Director, Center on Europe and Eurasia at Hudson Institute.

There were several topics covered in the discussion, including international politics and global security. Given its increasing geopolitical significance, several scenarios for the course of events in the North Caucasus were also put forth. In the new political reality, the North Caucasus is a crucial area in international processes because of its significant position on the world’s new geopolitical map.

The Hudson Institute’s president, John Walters, stressed that this meeting is not just about discussion but also about friendship and support during this momentous occasion. This demonstrates the effectiveness of Chechen diplomacy, which has been able to build trustworthy and functional relationships with major international organizations in a comparatively short period of time.

It should be noted that the Hudson Institute has already visited the Chechen Republic of Ichkeria’s General Representation in Ukraine in last summer. Thus, this visit represents yet another significant step in enhancing the Chechen Republic of Ichkeria’s global reputation and expanding its diplomatic connections.

Let’s recall that the Hudson Institute is a key think tank of the US Republican Party and followers of Ronald Reagan’s policy, which gives these negotiations a special significance in the context of geopolitical processes.
